Until 3rd November, there will be restricted access at Bears of the Rising Sun (lower viewing) and our Elephant Bushwalk will be closed.
From 14th October 2024, our Woodland Hollow will be closed.

This event is not for scaredy-cats!
Our Trail of Terror is packed full of scares at every turn, from rustling bushes, to masked monsters and screaming scarers! Our staff are at hand to make your evening as frightening as possible, all put together by our Colchester Zoo in-house team – Zoo team by day and scarers by night!
Safe Zones
There are several Safe Zones located along the route which will allow you the chance to purchase food and drink without the fear of being frightened!
Live Entertainment
At the end of the trail the fun doesn’t stop there! Why not reflect on the horrors enjoyed with your friends and enjoy the live entertainment, food and drink until close.
Tickets
Tickets must be pre-booked online in advance for a specific time of arrival. Arrival times are staggered throughout the evening to allow our staff to reset the scares!
Important Information:
You will be excited, you will be scared but please control yourself!
Do not lash out, touch, violate or abuse scarers. They will not touch you.
Failure to follow the above and you will be asked to leave and no refund will be given.
Due to the nature of this event, we will not admit anyone under the age of 5 years old. We do not recommend this event for anyone under the age of 12 years old however, this is at guardians’ discretion. Please also be aware that due to the unpredictable nature of the trail, this event may not be suitable for some people with sensory or other specific needs. Personal assistants will be admitted free of charge to accompany a guest with disability but verification may be requested on arrival.

Why not purchase a Meal Voucher for an additional £8.00 upon booking, for a spook-tacular meal deal along our Trail of Terror, so there’s no need to eat beforehand!

Meal Voucher Information:
Meal Vouchers can be redeemed for Meal Deal options ONLY. Other food options cannot be purchased using Meal Voucher. Meal Deals are exempt from passholder discount. Meal Deals can be purchased without a Meal Voucher for £8.50 on the night of the event.
Important Notice
This evening event does not include access to our daytime event Shriek Week. Although this event is hosted by us here at Colchester Zoo and the trail is within the park, this event does not include animal viewing.
